Watford vs Manchester United: Can the Hornets Extend their Perfect Run?
Table of Contents
It’s been a dream start for Watford at the beginning of the new Premier League campaign and after four games, the Hornets sit in third place with four straight wins. Next up at Vicarage Road are Manchester United who should provide Javi Gracia and his men with their toughest test of the season so far.
Jose Mourinho went some way to answering his critics when United beat Burnley last time out but who will win out in Saturday’s late kick off?
Match Odds
Despite some contrasting form between the two sides, it’s Manchester United who go into this game as favourites at best odds of 22/23 with Unibet. The draw is the next option on the list at a top price of 13/5 with BetFred and SportingBet while a victory for Watford is out at 17/5 with MarathonBet again.
Watford had a relatively comfortable start to the season but their biggest achievement came prior to the international break when they beat Spurs by a 2-1 scoreline. Tottenham had beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford the week before so by basic logic you would feel that the Hornets have a real chance here. Considering United’s mixed form the draw is certainly tempting us but before we commit, we’ll take a look at the players who can change the course of the game.
Individual Goal Scorers
The first goalscorer market has Manchester United players dominating and it starts with the favourite Romelu Lukaku who is listed at best odds of 9/2 with Betway. Alexis Sanchez follows at a top price of 6/1 with Boylesports but it’s not been a positive opening to 2018/19 for the Chilean so we’ll avoid him this time.
A more tempting punt could go on Anthony Martial at best odds of 7/1 with Betway or Jesse Lingard at a top price of 17/2 with SportingBet. Even Paul Pogba gets in ahead of the Watford players at a best of 17/2 with 10Bet and SportPesa before we finally get to some Hornets.
Troy Deeney is the player to watch here and for a number of seasons, the captain has been at the heart of Watford’s more positive displays. You can back Deeney at best odds of 10/1 with Boylesports to open the scoring or you could opt to play a little safer and take Watford’s key man at a top price of 10/3 with MarathonBet for a goal at any time in 90 minutes.
Other interesting options in the anytime market might include Pogba at 3/1, Juan Mata at 4/1 with BetFred, Marouane Fellaini at 5/1 with BetFred or Will Hughes at 13/2 with SportingBet.
There are a number of interesting prices among that list but 10/3 on Deeney any time is a reasonable figure. He’s started 2018/19 in top form and should take any penalties that come Watford’s way so he becomes our first confirmed tip of the game.
Other Side Bets
The goal count between the two sides is quite healthy with Watford scoring nine goals in four games and Manchester United registering six in their four. The Hornets have been quite tight at the back while United’s defence has been their concern but those figures suggest that Both Teams to Score could be a sound option at best odds of 13/15 with 10Bet and SportPesa.
That looks a little too short so we could switch instead to the Overs and Unders market to look for some higher numbers. Over 2.5 is odds on again in most places but you can get a best of 21/20 with MarathonBet. That looks a reasonable sum for a likely option but we’ll go a shade braver and take Over 3.5 which would come in at a top price of 13/5 with Unibet and 888Sport.
Based on form alone, we’re looking for a high scoring draw to land at Vicarage Road in Saturday’s 5.30pm kick off. A Correct Score of 2-2 at 15/1 with 188Bet is a tempting punt but hopefully these tips will be enough to give us a profitable 90 minutes.
Best Bets:
- The Draw at 13/5 with BetFred
- Troy Deeney to score any time at 10/3 with MarathonBet
- Over 3.5 Goals at 13/5 with Unibet
