Liverpool lost their Premier League consecutive winning start last Sunday with a battling 1-1 draw against bitter rivals, Manchester United, to cut their lead to six points from the chasing pack. Adam Lallana came off the bench to hand the Merseysiders a lifeline against the previously struggling hosts.
Tottenham were also the beneficiaries of a late equalizer last weekend, as Dele Alli spared their blushes to gain a solitary point at home to struggling Watford. Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League table, but they are already thirteen points behind Sunday’s opponents. The away side will be hoping they have turned a corner in their form, following their 5-0 home Champions League win over Crvena Zvezda in midweek, but a trip to Anfield is a whole different ball game for the Lilywhites.

Liverpool are the bookmakers’ favourites to claim the spoils on home soil, with Ladbrokes and Betway among the best places to get the best available odds on Jurgen Klopp’s side at 8/15. The Draw is the next preferred option in front of an away win for Spurs at 18/5 – with Unibet, while the same bookmaker is again top price on a Tottenham victory, along with William Hill at 11/2.
Liverpool’s home form this season has been nothing short of exceptional with five consecutive victories. Jurgen Klopp’s side have not had the simplest of fixtures in that period, with Arsenal and Leicester already succumbing at the Kop.
Home advantage could well play a big part in this game on Sunday afternoon. Tottenham are more than capable of performing at a very high level, but the concern has to be over how much resolve Spurs have against the fast attacking style of Liverpool, who look to be reasonable value at odds against.
The usual suspects are at the head of the betting in this market, with Liverpool striker, Mohamed Salah returning to Premier League action this weekend, being a top-priced 4/1 with Unibet and 888Sport to score first. Perhaps a little more surprisingly, Tottenham’s top scorer, Harry Kane is far weaker in this market to open the scoring – at 13/2, again with Unibet and 888Sport.
Tottenham striker Kane, along with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (22/5 with Unibet and 888Sport) are locked on five Premier League goals so far this season, while fellow Liverpool striker, Roberto Firmino is a 5/1 chance with, yes, you guessed it, Unibet and 888Sport.
Tottenham have a fine supporting cast to compliment Harry Kane. South Korean forward, Son Heung-Min is a best priced 21/2 shot with Unibet and 888Sport to silence the Anfield faithful, while fellow attacker, Dele Alli can be backed at 15/1 with the same firms. Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen should also be worthy of consideration at the best available odds of 17/1 with you know who.
The player who takes my eye at bigger odds is Virgil van Dijk. The world’s most expensive defender has begun the new season in fantastic form, and he is the obvious defensive lynchpin for his team. Bookmakers are sadly catching on to the obvious threat that van Dijk offers at set-pieces however. One bookie, who shall remain nameless go as short as 13/1 on the Dutch defender to score first, but we much prefer SportingBet’s offer of 22/1. Sporting Bet also offer 15/2 on van Dijk to score any time as a lively alternative.
Over 2.5 Goals is a similarly un-lucrative choice at 5/9 – again with SportNation – for another short-priced option.
My main bet for this game is for Liverpool to Win the Match and Both Teams to Score. The 9/5 on offer with Coral and Betway looks to be solid value for the home side to win the game, and this bet will be successful provided that Tottenham can score against a strong Liverpool rear guard – especially on home soil.
A 3-1 Liverpool Correct Score bet is also worthy of consideration at the stand out price of 23/2 with BetHard. This game promises to be an attacking, entertaining fixture, that is highly likely to offer plenty of clues on how both teams could ultimately fare at the end of the season.
Tottenham are capable of getting a result at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, but their sketchy recent league form offers little confidence in truth, and Liverpool look to be a solid choice in this game.
