Huddersfield Town v Crystal Palace: Relegation Scrap Intensifies

At the top, the title race may be over but elsewhere we’re looking at what could be the tightest relegation battle for many years. Just six points currently separate eight sides between twelfth and nineteenth place so perhaps this match at the John Smith’s Stadium is the most important fixture of the weekend.

Match Odds

Saturday’s game sees 15th placed Huddersfield host a Crystal Palace side who have now slipped into the relegation zone after a poor run of results. The Eagles had enjoyed a recovery of sorts under Roy Hodgson but they come into this game with just two points from their last six matches.

David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town have claimed seven points over the same period time so form, and home advantage, should make the Terriers the obvious favourites for this fixture. However, it’s Crystal Palace who start with the shortest numbers at best odds of 7/4 with Unibet while Huddersfield are further back at a top price of 2/1 with BetFred and 188Bet.

The draw completes this market at odds of 11/5 with MarathonBet so while there may well be some value for this game, which way is it going to go?

Individual Goal Scorers

Christian Benteke

We’ll come back to the result betting after we’ve identified the players who can decide the destiny of this game over 90 minutes. With a tight game in prospect, players from both teams feature highly in the first goalscorer betting but it’s Huddersfield’s Steve Mounie who starts as favourite to open the scoring at best odds of 6/1 with Bet365.

Laurent Depoitre is next on the list at a top price of 13/2 with Bet365 again while Alexander Sorloth is available at a best of 7/1 with Betway and BetBright. There could be some interest in Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke at best odds of 8/1 with Winner Sports or Wilfried Zaha at the same top price of 8/1 with Bet365 and Sport Pesa.

The issue with those two is while they should be the biggest threat from a Palace point of view, Benteke is misfiring and has just two goals in 24 games this season while Zaha is just returning from injury.

Further down, one name that stands out for us is that of Huddersfield’s Alex Pritchard who is available at a top price of 11/1 with Bet365. Pritchard arrived from Norwich City in the January transfer window and scored an early goal for his new club. He’s a midfielder with an eye for goal and as such, Pritchard is our first confirmed tip but we’re switching to the anytime market where he still offers good value at a best of 4/1 with Bet365 and Winner Sports.

Other Side Bets

Palace come here in the midst of a bad run but Roy Hodgson’s side has only failed to score in one of their last six matches. Huddersfield have actually scored more in that period but have drawn three blanks. Those stats have led to some quite reasonable value in the Both Teams to Score Betting where the best price now sits at Even Money with William Hill and 10Bet.

That could be one of our safer tips of the day and with two weaker defences on show we think it’s going to convert.

Elsewhere, a tight game could make the Winning Margin market an place to head to where either side to win by one goal is available at best odds of 5/4 with Betway. We think that’s a good option but in what may well prove to be an attacking game, Over 3.5 goals is our final tip of the day which is at a top price of 18/5 with Unibet but it’s tempting to suggest a 3-2 victory for Huddersfield which is available at an outstanding 40/1 with Coral and 188Bet.

Best Bets

  • Alex Pritchard to score anytime at 4/1 with Bet365
  • Both Teams to Score at Even Money with William Hill
  • Over 3.5 Goals at 18/5 with Unibet
