England v Bulgaria: Three Lions Seeking Three Points

Euro 2020 Qualifying has been fairly plain sailing for England so far with two straight wins in Group A. Gareth Southgate’s men have scored five goals in each of those five matches and they could expect another big haul when they face bottom of the table Bulgaria on Saturday.

England’s opponents have just two points from their first four games and sit on the brink of elimination so will it be plain sailing for the Three Lions at Wembley in this 6pm Kick Off?

Date: September 7, 2019

Match Odds

There certainly seems to be little point in using the straight result market if you intend to back England. The home side are as short as 1/20 in places and can currently be claimed at the industry best of 1/11 with Bethard. The draw is the next option on the list at a top price of 12/1 while victory for the Bulgarians is way out at 33/1 with William Hill and Coral.

The days when England used to slip up against weaker opposition seem to be behind us and at home, the Three Lions are a formidable force. The hosts are also close to full strength so, if you like your profits to be tiny ones, we suggest backing England at that price. If, however, you want some better value, it’s a case of checking the side markets.

Individual Goal Scorers

Harry Kane

Harry Kane is clear in the first goal scorer betting and you can pick up the Spurs striker at odds of 2/1 with BetFred and SportingBet. Likely strike partner Callum Wilson is available at 12/5 with Ladbrokes and Coral while Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling is listed at best odds of 7/2 with Betway.

England players continue to dominate the individual goal scorer markets with Marcus Rashford quoted at 33/10 with Unibet, followed by Jadon Sancho at a top price of 11/2 with BetFred. Even midfielder James Maddinson gets in ahead of the Bulgarians at best odds of 7/1 with Betway while Jesse Lingard is just behind at a top price of 8/1 with Betway again.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a market quite like this and in fact, we have to go all the way down to 40/1 before we find our first representative from Bulgaria. Daniel Mladenov is the name and he can be found at those best odds of 40/1 with 10Bet and SportPesa.

Interestingly, Bulgaria have scored in each of their four Euro 2020 qualifiers so far and while that doesn’t suggest they will be finding the net first, that could be a pointer for other markets. Meanwhile, our first tip of the game is for Raheem Sterling to score first here. He’s just starting to translate his prolific club form onto the international stage and in a game of short prices, 7/2 isn’t too bad.

Other Side Bets

Will the Bulgarians continue that scoring record of finding the net in every game? Both Teams to Score will tempt some punters at best odds of 5/2 with Coral and SportingBet while the no option here is generally available at 3/10.

Total Goals betting could be a more logical option with Over 2/5 looking safe at best odds of 4/9 with BetFred. Over 3.5 offers a little more value at 11/10 with BetFred again while Over 4.5 is quoted at 5/2 with Unibet.

The issue with the Overs markets is that we may need the Bulgarians to score and we can’t see that happening. England have been strong in all departments and we expect that dominance to continue on Saturday. With that in mind, England to win to nil is a likely bet if you’re happy to take the 3/8 that’s currently on offer with Betway.

For the longest possible shot we can find, we’d suggest taking a smaller wager on a correct score of England 4 Bulgaria 0 which is listed at best odds of 6/1 with Bethard. It all points to a very comfortable evening for England and in a match where betting value is tough to pin down, we hope these three tips will lead to a profitable 90 minutes.

Best Bets:

  • Raheem Sterling to score the first goal at 7/2 with Betway
  • England to win to nil at 3/8 with Betway
  • Correct Score of England 4 Bulgaria 0 at 6/1 with Bethard
