The club’s owners wasted no time in looking ahead, replacing outgoing manager Gary Rowett with former England midfielder Frank Lampard and the new boss receives instant financial backing via a new sponsorship deal from 32Red.
The arrangement appears to be for the 2018/19 season only at this stage but as principal sponsor, it gives 32Red widespread exposure in terms of kit. The brand logo will appear on all of Derby’s playing shirts and also in their training gear through the whole of the next campaign.
Financial details are not available and while Derby County are merely seventh favourites for promotion next season at best odds of 6/1 with 188Bet, perhaps the one-year deal is intended to leave room for re-negotiation next season if the Rams do go up and reclaim a place in the Premier League.
As the news was announced, UK General Manager of the Kindred Group, Neil Banbury said:
We are extremely proud to partner with Derby County, a traditional and successful club. It has been a pleasure to deal with the club in agreeing our principal club partnership, that will see the 32Red brand on the front of the shirts and the training kit.
The ambition of the club is evident to see, and we wish the club and the fans every success in their push to the Premier League.
Head of Partnerships at Derby, Ashley Pedden added:
We’re delighted and hugely excited by this partnership with 32Red, who are part of the Kindred Group, and the opportunities it will provide for both parties.
We look forward to building a strong relationship between our two brands both on and off the field over the forthcoming year and we would like to thank Kindred Group for their support.
Derby County came so close to securing promotion back to the Premier League but while there would have been initial disappointment among the club’s supporters, there is every reason why the Pride Park faithful should feel optimistic ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Frank Lampard is untested as a manager but he will bring energy and enthusiasm into the role and is likely to attract some key personnel to the club. There is already talk that his former Chelsea colleague John Terry will join up with the playing staff after he was released by Aston Villa and there will surely be some interesting arrivals over the summer.
