Crystal Palace v Liverpool: Reds to March On
Table of Contents
Liverpool are a popular bet to win their first Premier League title at the end of 2018/19 and the support for Jurgen Klopp’s men intensified when they demolished West Ham last Sunday. The Reds coasted to a 4-0 victory and while we shouldn’t read much into the league table after just one game, the nature of the result sent a clear message to the rest of the division.
On Monday night, Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace but will the Reds continue in the same, free-scoring fashion or will they be more subdued against a team that has caused them problems in the past?
Match Odds
There are no surprises in the result betting where Liverpool start as clear favourites at best odds of 7/15 with Unibet. The draw is next at a top price of 41/10 with MarathonBet while a win for Crystal Palace can be picked up at a best of 13/2.
Liverpool enjoyed that fast start last time out but Palace were also comfortable as they won 2-0 at Premier League new boys Fulham. We should also consider that the Reds have slipped up against the Eagles in the past and over the last seven league games between these two, Liverpool have won four and Palace three.
A win for the away side would still seem to be the logical bet but before we commit, we’ll take a look at the players who can make a difference.
Individual Goal Scorers
It seemed inevitable that Mohamed Salah would open the scoring against the Hammers last time out. Last season’s Golden Boot winner found the net inside twenty minutes and the Egyptian is the favourite in Monday night’s first goalscorer betting at best odds of 3/1 with Betway.
Liverpool fans would have been pleased to see Daniel Sturridge on the scoresheet following his long battle with injury but the striker is likely to start on the bench once again so we’ll avoid his price of 11/4 with William Hill and 188Bet.
A better option could be Sadio Mane who scored twice in last Sunday’s victory and looks tempting at a top price of 6/1 with Betway while Roberto Firmino is a little shorter at 5/1 with Betway once again.
There’s been little support for Crystal Palace in this first goalscorer market but the Eagles finally get a mention through Wilfried Zaha who is quoted at 10/1 by 10Bet and Sport Pesa. Other selections for Palace include Christian Benteke at a best of 12/1 with Betway or on-loan forward Jordan Ayew at a top price of 14/1 with Betway yet again.
Mo Salah looks to be carrying last season’s form into the new campaign and is the most likely option to open the scoring but for our first confirmed tip of the day, we’ll switch to the anytime goal market where Roberto Firmino is available at 31/21 with Unibet and 888Sport. The Brazilian has a healthy return of 36 goals in 104 league games for the Reds and should be a constant threat from midfield.
Other Side Bets
When we expect a match to provide plenty of goals it can frequently disappoint but Liverpool look so potent up front that they should be breaching any defence with regularity. Crystal Palace should be tougher to break down than woeful West Ham but Salah, Mane, Firmino and others can look forward to a productive night.
Both Teams to Score is usually the first place to look and this is on offer at best odds of 3/4 with 188Bet but, with the Reds having shut out the Hammers last week, there may be more value in the Over 3.5 Goal bet which is our next tip at 6/4 with 888Sport.
Much has been made of Liverpool’s mixed record against Crystal Palace but Klopp’s men beat the Eagles twice last season and they have started 2018/19 like the side most likely to challenge Manchester CIty for the title.
We’ve looked for better value in the side betting and to complete our set of tips, we’ll round off what will hopefully be a profitable 90 minutes with a correct score punt of 3-1 in favour of Liverpool at 11/1 with 10Bet.
Best Bets:
- Roberto Firmino to Score Any Time at 31/21 with Unibet
- Over 3.5 Goals at 6/4 with 888Sport
- Correct Score of Crystal Palace 1 Liverpool 3 at 11/1 with 10Bet
